Small Grants and Travel Vouchers for People in Need

In partnership with the Float Trust, a charity providing financial support to people in Edinburgh, the Hellenic Community of Edinburgh can help by dispensing travel vouchers or can apply for people in need of grants.

TWO MEANS OF SUPPORT

1. Small Grants

Provision of small grants to people in Edinburgh in urgent need. Most are for essential living costs such as food, travel, and gas and electricity. The maximum grant is usually £30.

The focus is on those situations where a little means a lot, and the priority is people in the most difficult circumstances – such as those sleeping rough with no income, or with no recourse to public funds.

These grants aim to be the funder of last resort. That means people must apply for a crisis grant before an application is considered. Crisis grants are quick, easy to apply for, do not have to be repaid, and usually offer a lot more than the Float Trust small grants.

The eligibility criteria for these grants are the following:

  • The applicant lives in Edinburgh;
  • The applicant has applied for, and been refused, a crisis grant;
  • The applicant has income of less than £100 per week;
  • A grant of up to £30 will make a big difference.

2. Travel Bank

Travel poverty is a huge problem in Edinburgh. For want of a bus fare, people miss medical appointments, job interviews, and much else besides. The Travel Bank provides access to travel vouchers – Lothian Buses day tickets – for those unable to afford essential journeys.

When someone presents with an urgent travel need, travel vouchers can be issued to get them where they need to be.

HOW TO APPLY
